Through the hazy twilit moon,
your eyes blink awake
wary as the day
you pushed your way
into the world.
I remember now
how you emerged
from your naps,
pulling yourself up,
peering over crib bars.
Even then your eyes
curiously serious,
as if something precious
had been stolen from you, at a loss
as to how you ended up there.
